PRISim

AIS' PRISim, Professional Range Instruction Simulator, is designed to effectively prepare law enforcement personnel to react appropriately in a variety of volatile, life-threatening situations, while saving their own lives, those of fellow officers and innocent bystanders. PRISim is the only simulator on the market that offers a wide variety of state-of-the-art features for training in use-of-force judgement, such as:
  • ShootBack™ cannon enables an instructor to fire a .68 caliber nylon ball projectile
  • Use real weapons, modified to fire “safe” AirMunition non-lethal rounds
  • Non-tethered weapons allow full freedom of movement and reaction
  • Designed to maximize the instructor’s focus on training
  • Housed in a self-contained 36' 5th wheel trailer, for training at your location

PRISim™ - So Real It Shoots Back!
The single most important difference between reality and simulation is return fire. AIS's exclusive ShootBack™ cannon enables an instructor to safely fire a .68 caliber nylon ball at the trainee. The instructor can shoot the projectile at the appropriate points in the scenario. It has semi-automatic single-shot and full-automatic capability. Instructors unanimously agree that use of this breakthrough technology vastly increases a trainee's ability to deal with several critical factors.

Use of Cover
Until now, there has been no effective way of emphasizing the importance of this vital skill. After being hit by a ShootBack projectile, officers quickly understand the price for not taking cover quickly enough or not positioning themselves properly. Many trainees have stated that this single aspect of the PRISim system is a true life saver when anticipating and encountering similar situations on the street.

Stress
Stress is the officer's worst enemy in life-threatening situations because it distorts time perception and clouds judgment. Adrenaline levels skyrocket to points that negatively impact the ability to effectively control a firearm. Amounts of force necessary to squeeze the trigger are misjudged - an incident responsible for countless accidental firearm discharges.

Obviously, learning to control stress is a key factor in surviving a life-threatening situation.

Through use of more advanced scenarios with multi-level branching, firearm realism, and the ShootBack cannon, stress levels match or closely approximate the actual situation. Officers trained on the system leave their training sessions feeling like they've "been there." Without exception, they state that this is the most realistic training they've ever received. Officers who have been in actual gunfights state that what happens in PRISim scenarios is exactly the way it happens in the field.

Real Weapons - Another Key to Survival
Until now, simulator systems have been based on a laser gun approach that simulates a video game more than a life-threatening situation. PRISim is the only system that utilizes real weapons, modified to fire "safe" AirMunition non-lethal rounds. These rounds are reusable, can be used anywhere with no special environmental requirements, and are extremely cost effective.

The weapon functions as it would in real life and the projectile is tracked in real-time. There is full recoil so the weapon cycles and ejects the empty shell. Additionally, the officer can perform magazine changes, tactical reloads, and malfunctioning drills under stressful conditions.

Perhaps most importantly - the weapon is not tethered. Trainees have mobility, can use cover, and draw and fire exactly the way they would when on the job.

Weapons Availible For Use
The following weapons are available for training with the PRISim system.

  • Berretta 92

Staying on the Leading Edge
PRISim is much more than just a system. It's an architecture designed to grow as technology and judgment training techniques improve.

  • PRISim is Windows XP Professional-based, so components from other vendors can be easily integrated
  • Designed using a building-block approach: offers all of the connection points for extensive system expansion, preventing obsolescence, and protecting your investment

Maximizing the Instructor's Potential
PRISim is the first simulator specifically designed by law enforcement instructors to maximize the instructor's options and training potential.

  • A user friendly interface and intuitive controls enable the instructor to concentrate on the training - not on operating the simulator
  • This unique approach frees the instructor to tailor the situation, control the level of conflict, and change the flow of the training "on the fly"
  • The instructor's ability to individually address each trainee's strengths and weaknesses is vastly improved
  • The result is a training tool of unprecedented effectiveness

Training - Leveling the Playing Field
SDFT realizes that small departments do not have the same resources as large ones. This is why SDFT offers PRISim training on a cost-effective, per-officer basis. SDFT has mobilized a specially instrumented training trailer designed to bring state-of-the-art judgment training to departments all over the state. Led by Greg Block, the training our instructors can bring to smaller departments equals that provided by big city agencies.
